𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡 means everything to us, so it would only be understandable that it took us a quite a while to choose someone that would not only work very closely with the brand, but be a local, a South African, a “Sout van die Aarde mens” like we would say in Afrikaans, someone who has great values and morals, someone who said to us “I am a nice person and I will stay nice, being nice has gotten me very far in life” Someone everyone would be able to relate to and love. 𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡 has always pride itself in human connection and it would only make sense that we choose someone who could do just that.
Driving home with the dogs in the bakkie, in crazy traffic, after a very long but blessed day, we decided to make the call as soon as we received the Instagram message on her availability for a chat. When we spoke of an idea, she also had that idea, and vice versa, we basically completed one another’s sentences or “took the words out of each other’s mouths” so to speak. We laughed and we shared emotions about passion, religion and life. We shared goals, dreams and ideas. And within a matter of minutes, we knew that the right person has come along.
Chef Michelle Theron, who is rated one of the best Chef’s in South Africa first owned one 𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡, and soon after purchased another, actually quite some time ago. When we followed up with her that time, she told us how amazing 𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡 is and that we should be very proud of our creation. Recently she said to us “hulle werk hard” hahaha
A bit of history on Chef Michelle, she is a very dynamic chef who studied at Boland College, Stellenbosch, where she completed her Hospitality and Catering Diploma course. Volkskombuis and de Oewer, further experience at Laborie, in Paarl, as well as the Cape Grace Hotel at the V&A Waterfront are some of the establishments Michelle has added to her resume. She has also spent time working overseas in restaurants in Europe, including a few Michelin star restaurants in Holland, before coming home to her South African routes, where she joined La Motte in Franschoek, and currently the Executive Head Chef at Hazendal Wine Estate. She is incredibly passionate about traditional food. Chef Michelle’s speciality lies in Traditional South African cuisine executed in a modern contemporary style with many Russian and European influences These type of modern contemporary recipes itself are definitely not easy to duplicate, but get excited….
That’s right, get ready 𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡Fam, because Chef Michelle will be sharing recipes exclusively with you, that will be easy for any person to follow and execute, right there at home with your 𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡.
What’s on the menu? Briefly we have discussed a variety of recipes. Breads – Bear bread, Garlic bread, Mushroom Babka, Charred Corn Naan Bread. Then some, overnight Lamb Shoulder & Overnight Roast Chicken – fantastic for pie fillings, jaffels, sandwich fillings or sweet and savory fold over pies. Smores pies, Apple custard pies, Braai Brownies, Fire baked Tomato & Red pepper relish & Thai butternut & Coconut Curry… just some of what we chatted about, that Chef Michelle uses 𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗡 for on any given day and boy there is so much more to look forward to. Naturally suggestions will also be welcomed for possible creation.
Images, videos, techniques, we are so overwhelmed with excitement and we hope you are to!
